Important 19th century OOC portrait of Chas
W. Hawkes by noted Maine artist E. E. Finch, Augusta, Maine.
Signed and dated 1841 verso in the artist's hand. Resting in its
very impressive original frame which measures 33 x 29 overall. No
repairs and trivial off-face inpainting. This is a very nice
painting of a handsome young man by a known Maine artist. Inventory
number 24-782.

19th century Stables Market trade sign.
Hand painted and dated 1854 featuring a horse and rider in
the center oval with a house and tree embellishing the background.
Originally constructed from two boards. A wood batten and a metal
brace joining the two pieces together are not original to the sign,
but added later in its history. (see the reverse image for details)
This is a very rare sign which we purchased privately from an old
New England collection. Some very minor paint loss mostly in the
lower left quadrant. Size: 31 x 26. Inventory number 24-729.

Mid-century, Artistic Carving Co, Boston,
Mass eagle with shield wall plaque. This is a form not often
produced by this company and remains in excellent untouched
condition with no loss or repairs. The colors are very strong and it
projects well on the wall. Size: 21 x 21.5 overall. Inventory number

Double sided, non folding,
backgammon/checkers game board. While it does have some paint
loss, likely from use or mis-use, it still has bright pleasing
colors that will make it a stand-out addition to your collection.
Measuring about 18" square, it remains original and untouched.

Mid-19th century fixed handle basket in the
"BEST" untouched and original chrome yellow paint. Without a
doubt, this is one of the finest baskets we've had in decades and
its condition, color and surface are impeccable. If you're a fussy
basket collector you will not be disappointed with this little gem
which measures 6" deep. 11.5'' to the handle and 9.5" in diameter.

Canvasback drake decoy, possibly from
Michigan by an unknown carver. Great form with unusual and
original textured paint application. The bottom picture shows where
it was hollowed out to reduce weight when it was made. The head
seats very tightly to its body and it remains in very good

Large 19th century iron arrow weathervane
with metal base. Measuring 62" long it will command attention
by all that glance its way. Excellent condition with an honest color
and surface that will surely delight the eye. This is the best large

Impressive late 19th century gamecock
weathervane. Hollow body copper construction with cast zinc
feet. If color and surface are important to you, this is one very
nice vane that will certainly please you. Attributed to Cushing &

A grouping of four hand cut and painted folk
art birds on a nicely formed modern base. These little guys
are about 80 years of age and portray well in their modern day
presentation. Each bird measures approximately 10" long and as
shown, about 14" tall. Inventory number 24-871.

Free standing single-sided gamewheel with
dramatic colors and condition. As a unit, it stands 31" tall
with a 17" diameter wheel. Usually I prefer just displaying the
wheel, but this unit is small enough to display well in its entirety

Late 20th century life-size carving of a
yellowlegs shorebird. Skillfully carved, painted and mounted
on a pleasing piece of driftwood. Signed Horace D. Bearse, Ducks and
Shorebird Decoys. An internet search did not turn up anything on
this carver, but let me assure you, he's very talented in both his
carving and painting abilities. Size: 9' tall, 10.5" wide. Inventory

going to assume this was made sometime in the last half of the 20th
century. The black paint is original and it remains in excellent

The minute hand measures 20" while the hour hand is 15". Both are
painted gold, remain in very good condition and would make a nice

Small charming portrait of a young girl
wearing a shoulder length blue dress while holding a sprig of
flowers. The inscription verso says she died when a doctor
gave her poison instead of medicine. I'm assuming word of that
tragedy spread fast and that doctor never heard his door open again.
A sad premature ending to a delightful, charming and beautiful
little girl. Very sad indeed. Size: 7 x 6.5 Inventory number 24-885.

Wooden industrial gear. Each tooth of
this gear is amazingly dovetailed into the body of the gear and
while it only measures 26' in diameter, it's a great size to work

Apothecary trade sign. A skilled and exquisitely carved apothecary
trade sign. This form is new to us as we've never seen another quite
like it. It remains in pristine condition with its original gold
gilt color and surface. A beautifully carved floral leaf backdrop
highlights its mortar and pestle. Size: 26 x 14. Age: late 19th

Optical trade sign. We've had a number of these over the years, but
never one in this smaller size which measures only 20 x 12 with 8"
rims. The reason the lenses are blue and red is to draw attention to
the sign. Each glass is old, wavy and issue free. Age: late 19th to

A sculptural, second strike, bronze bust of Sitting Bull, c1940-50.
It is shown sitting on a lignum vitae twisted base which is included

the mat is the initialed urn with a single flower under a stylized
rooster. The remaining field of the rug is an array of various
flowers which compliments its central figure. Also please note its

19th century, c1850, ship portrait of a three masted ship, OOC.
Excellent as-found condition resting in its original frame which
measures 34 x 29 overall. Slight overall craqueleur, but in very
stable condition with no repairs or inpainting. Note the Masonic
flag flying from its rear masthead. Information verso indicates it's
from Halifax, NS and very likely a Canadian ship. The quality of the
waves, ship and sky indicate the work of a skilled hand which
unfortunately will have to remain anonymous. Inventory number

A highly skilled carving of St. Florian, the patron saint of
firemen. A label attached to the bottom identifies Anton Zigler
1874-1955 which we assume is the carver. The figure is shown pouring
water onto a burning house and remains in pristine overall
condition. Carved from a soft wood, possible pine or basswood. Size:

A rather unique three piece object from Waldoboro, Maine's button
factory. We're sure this was an "end of day" object made by one of
the factory's employees Size: The sphere which measures 4.25 inches
sits on a similar cylindrical base making its total height 10.5

Early Swedish telephone manufactured by the L. L. Ericsson late in
the 19th century. The incredible details that went into its making
are over the top astonishing. It seems to be all there and I
wouldn't be surprised if it could be made to work. All of its wiring
is there and remains intact. It measures roughly 12 x 10. Inventory

19th century ships caulking hammer. We are not anywhere close to
being known as a tool dealer, but when we saw this in its original
blue paint, it was love at first sight. Our opinion is it was never
used a great deal as other examples we've seen have a huge amount of
use and wear. We would call the wear on this very mild. Size: 18 x

an earlier time for that company. At any rate, the sign is genuine

20th century hand carved and painted Atlantic
puffin signed WEK which stands for William E. Kirkpatrick, Hudson,
Massachusetts. Very good original condition on a wooden base.
Kirkpatrick loved and carved many of the shoebirds species found
