Description

RARE, smaller size 19th century J. Howard Co. rooster weathervane. The Howard company was located in Bridgewater, Massachusetts and active from 1856-1867. They produced a large variety of weathervane forms and all were unique in that they were composed of bodies that were largely cast zinc with the remainder being shaped and formed  copper. This weathervane is a fine example with an entire body of cast zinc with only its rippled tail being made from sheet copper. There are no repairs. Its color and surface are indisputably original and untouched. Howard's rooster vanes came in two sizes with the smaller version being very elusive and much harder to find. If you've had one of these smaller versions on your wishlist, please consider adding this fine example to your collection. Dimensions: 14" tall, 12' wide, 4 deep. Inventory 25-92.

19th century HOUR GLASS FORGE trade sign. It's been my experience that signs of this nature were mostly tavern signs and what a treat it was to acquire this unique sign which hung outside of a blacksmith/forge shop. Mother nature has put her touch on this sign over the years to create its wonderful time-endured appearance which collectors love. The top of the sign shows the skill of the owner with his talented use of wrought iron used in hanging the sign. The overall condition of the sign is as you see it with some slight animal chews on the lower corners as shown. Dimensions: 36T x 26.5W x 1D Inventory 25-151.

$5800.

A very desirable 19th century OOC portrait of a very pretty young woman in a yellow dress holding a book. She was recently purchased from a Mainline Philadelphia estate and remains in very good condition in her original frame. I am not aware of any restoration. The overall surface is a fine craquelure. Dimensions: 36 x 35. Artist and sitter unknown. Inventory number 25-170.

$1950.

A large French clock face with a vibrant blue ground color with gold numerals This classical clock face will not only delight your eye, but brighten up that special space in your home for you to enjoy. Size: 36" in diameter. c1900. Ex.Stephen Score. Inventory number 25-152.

$1450.

A fine double socket tole decorated lamp in complete and original condition. We have sold several of these lamps over the years, but this example is one of the finest we've ever had the privilege of owning. If you've been looking for an exceptional tole lamp, give this beauty some serious thought. Excellent working order. Size: 12.5" tall. 16" wide. c1920. Inventory number 25-159.

$695.

Brian Coole, American, United Kingdom (b1939). Brian Coole may not be a household name, but when it comes to modern 20th century artists, there are very few taller in status. His painting skill and attention to detail are equal with artists like Jacobson, York and others. There are some losses to the frame as seen in the images, plus some very minor imperfections in its painted surface, but overall good. Size: 23 x 15 overall. Inventory number 25-149.

$1850.

Small, very hard to find, 19th century mold blown kidney bottle. I've always loved this form which I related to bottles of much larger size in demi-john proportions.

I know serious bottle collectors love their bottle in pristine condition and I'll guarantee this little gem will not disappoint. Size: 7" T, 7" W. Inventory number 24-890.

Large double sided blacksmith made metal sign, possibly from an Odd Fellows Lodge. The scrollwork is very impressive and very complimentary to the highly detailed open palm hand which is surrounded by a date of 1856. The sign was purchased privately from a Vermont collection and remains in excellent condition. Size: 36 x 24 x 1 and weighs about 45 pounds. Inventory number 25-82.

$2250.

Sterling Silver perpetual calendar signed Tiffany & Co. A perfect desk accessory or gift for that someone special in your life. Size: 3 x 3.75. Very good condition. Inventory number 25-161.

A fine 19th century double eagle keyhole escutcheon. Impressive detail. Excellent condition. Size: 8.75 x 6. Inventory number 25-123.

Tiny 19th century sailor-made whalebone weight carrier. Beautifully carved in proportion to hold 6 tiny brass weights. Size: only 3.75 x 1.75. Inventory number 25-109.

$225.

An intricately carved Meerschaum pipe featuring two fully carved dimensional horses on a relief carved stem/bowl. Very good condition with no issues. The case has suffered some damage over the years, but it is its original case and it's there. Size: 5.5" long. Inventory number 25-162.

$350.

Doris Stauble, 1927-2006, Wiscasset, Maine. Doris is well known for her floral and fruit arrangements she made using pantry boxes, trencher bowls, dough bowls and anything else she deemed suitable for one of her now famous creations. The arrangements she made from the 50s through the 70s are now found in collections virtually all over the country. She used a featheredged bowl for this creation filling it with a colorful and a very pleasing selection of wax fruit. I think you'll agree it's one of her better arrangements. Size: About 10" in diameter. Inventory number 25-163.

$650.

Skillfully carved shell in relief showcasing two lovely and graceful Victorian ladies. Originally made into a lamp, but with the cord cut off and no way I know of to take it apart without risk of damage, it will remain as a choice object of desire. Size: 7.5" tall mounted on a 4'' round wood base. c1900. Inventory number 25-141.

$195.

A pair of early 20th century decorative wood wall finials. Very nicely done, excellent condition with good color and surface. Each measures 31" T, 4.5" W. c1900. Inventory number 25-106.

$495. the pair.

48 star parade flag. As parade flags go, this is quite a bit larger than most you'll see measuring 9 x 11 overall in a modern frame. Inventory number 23-936.

$195.

A wonderful pair of cast iron owl andirons with a bronze wash. For me the most important thing about this pair of andirons are the eyes which remain in perfect condition since they were made. I've had chances to buy similar examples with cracked or missing eyes which I've always turned down figuring if I look at them as a problem, you will too. Perfect in a rustic second home or camp. Each measures 15" tall with 14" log dogs. Circa late 19th century to the early 20th century. Inventory number 25-163.

$595.

19th century full body "DEXTER" horse weathervane. Attributed to The Cushing and White Co.,1875-1890, Waltham, Massachusetts. In the 19th century, horse weathervane forms were patterned after famous race horses of the day and in my opinion, the Dexter form is my all time favorite as it exhibits great form and powerful movement. It appears to have been stripped at some point in its history, but what remains is very appealing. The raw copper has taken on a wonderful warm and rich tone with what I feel are the remains of its original oxidized verdigris color. Dimensions: 18"T, 27"W and 4"D. There are no repairs. Inventory number 25-168.

$2200.

Early 19th century fragment mirror. The frame for this mirror was hand cut layered stock with its mirror glazed in place. Interestingly enough there is a pinwheel carved asymmetrically on its back side of the mirror which raises the question, why this decorative addition wasn't carved on the front of its handle? We'll never know the answer to that question, but it does add interest. Size: 10.5 x 5. Inventory number 25-169.

$850.

An early 20th century, double-sided game board. One side is a backgammon game with a checkers game on the reverse side. With all double-sided boards, one side always has more appeal than the other. In this case, I love the backgammon side with its two eye-appealing stars. Both sides feature incised fields which is unusual and a nice added touch. It remains completely untouched in its original condition and measures 15.5 x 12. c1920. Inventory number 25-174.

$650.

This c1920s office chair is way out of our time frame, but with its added patriotic decoration, it was love at first sight. It's very cool not only to use, but to enjoy as an object for a patriotic enthusiast. Dimensions: 34T, 23W, with an 18" seat height. Inventory number 24-899.
