Description

An exceptional pair of small green, 19th century oval, fingered pantry boxes. Each retains nearly all of its original green painted surface and both are in pristine condition. The larger box measures 4.75 x 3.5 x 1.75. The smaller box measures 3.5 x 2.5 x 1.5 inches. Both are fresh from a private Massachusetts collection. These little gems are becoming nearly impossible to find these days in this condition and graduation. Inventory number 24PD271.

$1400. the pair

Attributed to William Matthew Prior, 1806-1873, Bath, Maine, OOB. There are some issues with this work as you can see in the close up photos, but nothing that can't be corrected with the right hands. If she weren't so very pretty, I would have passed her by, so if the next owner wishes to live with her as is or have her restored, it'll be a future choice to make.  Size: 17 x 13 overall in its original decorated frame. c1835. Inventory number 24PD270.

Handmade folk art whale weathervane from a coastal New England estate. Mother Nature has washed most of its original red surface away, but left just enough to make it very visually appealing. Excellent weathered condition mounted on a modern wood base for display. Size: 24 x 14.5 inches tall on its stand. Age: early 20th century. Inventory number 24PD272.

$1950.

Large 18th century Westerwald pitcher with a large impressive incised swan embellishing its facade. A small rim chip is its only issue, but considering age and use, it's pretty trivial. Size: 16 inches tall. From a private Maine collection. Age: 18thc. Inventory number 24PD277.

$1150.

18th century Westerwald stein with a signed and dated ( EBM 1789) hinged pewter lid or cover. Excellent overall condition with fine incised decoration. Also worth mentioning is a meandering earthworm decoration embellishing its rim which we feel is quite unusual. Size: 9.5"tall, 4" in diameter. Inventory number 24PD244.

$950.

Extraordinary 19th century densely decorated basket with a fixed handle. One side of the basket is dated 1859 while the other side has initials, presumably those of its owner. Overall condition is very good. The handle has a very slight fracture, but remains quite stable. Its strong colors remain unusually vibrant and true. Size: 11 x 10 x11.75 inches. Inventory number 24PD276.

$1450.

A very impressive pair of brass port and starboard ships lanterns with their original unblemished lenses and burners. Each measures 18 inches tall to its handle and 10 inches wide overall. We feel both are of late 19th or very early 20th century vintage and remain in excellent condition. Inventory number 24PD268.

$895. the pair

William Matthew Prior, 1806-1873, Bath, Maine. This portrait is signed and dated verso by Prior and represents his father, a seagoing captain. The work is being offered without a frame and as you can see in one of the images, there is an old repair just to the left of his father's face. The work is very well done and represents Prior's work in his later years. As mentioned, Prior passed in 1873 with this work being completed in 1870 just three years before his death at age 67. Its overall size is 28 x 33 with an overall crackled surface. Inventory number 24PD197.
