Gaming wheel. This very colorful wheel measures only 24" in diameter and has gone through time surviving in exceptional condition with very appealing color and surface. We have never seen another wheel with the stop pins located so close to the central portion of the wheel, and they're all there. Normally they surround the perimeter of the wheel. Inventory number 24-600.






 

Large Highlander whirligig. This is the largest gig we've ever owned and its size dictates a place of importance in your home. It comes with a custom wall mount which shows it off well in place. The paint is weather worn, very dry and original with some possible later paint to its black belt, but a long time ago. The paddles are original which is always most appreciated by the most selective of collectors. Size: 43” tall. Inventory number 24-556.

Vernon Broe,1930-2011, Richmond, Maine. Broe was a prolific artist who appears to have been very fond of beach scenes of children playing and sailboats. While he also did still lifes, most of his attention favored children and boats. Size: 13 x 15.5 overall. Framed under glass. Inventory number 24-570.

A very well done 19th century painting of several sheep and chickens in a barn setting. It remains in its untouched original condition and rests in its original frame measuring 25 x 21 overall. An illegible signature can be seen in the lower left corner which we just couldn't identify. Inventory number 24-593.

19th century Folk Art cane by noted Michigan carver, Mike Cribbins, 1837-1917, Lake Orion, Michigan. Cribbin's cane are on the top of every serious cane collectors' wish list and remain today in a very rare and elusive status. Canes are one of the hardest objects to photograph and I hope my images convey not only its intense and detailed carvings, but its fine overall condition. There are NO flaws or damage. Signed in several places having three snakes, the dates 1861-1891 and 1863, Masonic and GAR symbols and most importantly this cane was a presentation to  J W Sawyer, 19th Mass INFT. Made from diamond willow measuring 36'' long. Inventory number 23-880.

Delightfully smaller size 19th century dome top wallpaper box. We're dating this box early in the 19th century; 1820 would be a good guess. Considering this age, it remains in remarkably good condition including its original tiny and delicate leather hinges. Wonderful colors on what we believe is hand painted wallpaper. A nice open face diorama from the mid century. In last month's update we featured a sister piece to this which was signed and dated, Captain Alfred Dale Hopkins, June 16th,1952, East Orleans, Mass. While this one is not signed, I guarantee it to be by the same hand of Capt. Hopkins. Excellent condition with good detail and color. Size: 15.5 x 12.5. Inventory number 24-456.

A mid-20th century open faced diorama of the sailboat Vamarie as identified LL. A pencil inscription verso identifies the maker as Capt. Alfred Dale Hopkins and dated  June 16th,1952, East Orleans, Mass. Excellent condition with no known repairs. Size: 11 x 14. Inventory number 24PD455.

A 7 foot tall, hand carved and painted totem pole from a camp in Northern Vermont. My guess it was made in the 1950s and from what I can tell, wasn't outdoors much as its paint and overall condition testifies. Five splashy and colorful hand carved figures embellish its overall presence and design. Inventory number 24PD297.

TINY finger lapped pantry box in original black paint measuring only 2 3/8" in diameter and 1.5 inches deep. Excellent untouched condition with good surface and slight wear to keep it honest. Extraordinary 19th century densely decorated basket with a fixed handle. One side of the basket is dated 1859 while the other side has initials, presumably those of its owner. Overall condition is very good. The handle has a very slight fracture, but remains quite stable. Its strong colors remain unusually vibrant and true. Size: 11 x 10 x11.75 inches. 19th century George Boyd Yellowlegs shorebird decoy, 1873-1941, Seabrook, New Hampshire. Boyd is considered by many to be one of New England's finest sport carvers as evidenced by this example. His ducks and shorebird decoys are found in major collections and in important museums nationwide. His consistent lines are easily recognizable by those in the know and run true to form from one carving to the next. The paint is original, the bill is an old replacement as is a minute chip on its tail. It measures 10.5 x 5.5 x 2.5 and comes on a modern metal stand. Inventory number 24PD137.

Early 19th century wooden button hole lapped keg in original green paint. This is a real survivor remaining in condition that supports its careful use and not abuse. Size: 9 x 8 x 7.25. Inventory number 24PD184.

Skillfully hand-carved 19th century bust of what we believe is Diana, the goddess of the hunt or possibly another mythological figure. The overall condition is good, however with anything made from wood and having good age, there are some losses and age cracks which are visible in the images. The wood has toned very nicely and developed a very impressive warm color, patina and surface. Size: 19 x 12 x 7. Inventory number 23PD1049.

Late 18th or early 19th century lead sunface fire mark. In early times, insurance companies gave their clients fire marks to be displayed in a prominent place on their homes. Without this mark, if there was a fire, local firefighters would simply let the house burn to the ground. Aren't we glad this policy changed.

I love this form, its color and surface. Size: 7 x 6.75 inches. Very good condition. Inventory number, 24PD80.

Early 20th century swing handle oval Nantucket basket. If (MINT) is an important word in your hunt for baskets, you have just found one. Beautifully toned with an owner's mark on its bottom. Size: 10 x 9.5 x 5.5. Ex: Olde Hope Antiques. Inventory number 23PD1055.




 

Small densely carved sailor made needle case made from a tagua nut from a palm tree. Commonly referred to as vegetable ivory. Excellent condition and sold with a custom wood base for display. Size: 3 3/8 inches long. Inventory number 24PD46.

An exceptional pair of early 19th century marriage portraits. Both remain in very good condition and are housed in their original molded black frames under very wavy historic glass. Early 19th century, possibly Revolutionary War period, canteen in original red paint. Its original hand whittled cork remains, but two leather straps are long gone. One side shows a rectangular panel which we assume may have had the owners initials or possibly a date. It too has worn off. Otherwise in fine and stable condition. A unique pair of highly detailed cast bronze elephant shelves. Each shelf with its wooden back and top measures 10 x 9.5 x 8.5 and remains in perfect condition with good signs of use and slight wear which substantiates their age which we'll guess to be about 1920-30. Fine late 19th century crooked knife of Maine/Nova Scotia origin. The focal point of the knife is its 4 stacked graduated hearts which are further embellished with relief carved stars and delicate chip carving. 19th Maine crooked knife. Incredibly carved having raised elements, relief and embossed stars, a heart and an ample amount of chip carving along its edges making it just that much more special. 19th century portrait of a charming young girl in a green shoulder length dress with pink ribbons in her hair. The more you look at her, the more captivating she becomes. 19th century oval pantry in THE BEST original red painted surface. This box is in remarkable untouched condition with an unusual single finger lapped lid and a full vertical lapped body. Also we noted it's constructed with shaved maple hardwood which is quite unusual. Delicately made and surviving in phenomenal condition. Size: 11 x 4.25 x 8.5.

19th century native Maine crooked knife with relief carved initial, S T. At one point in its life, it was painted green, but now, with use, its wear pattern substantiates age and use. The blade is from an old straight razor, the wrapping is copper wire. It's a simple example yet attractive in form and condition. Size: 10 inches long.

19th century turned maple mortar and pestle in strong first-surface red color. Condition: Some surface checks, but no cracks or hairlines that penetrate the bowl. While there are no traces of red on its pestle, we believe it's original and shows impressive wear and good in-use surface. Size: The mortar is 8 inches tall, the pestle is 9.25 inches.
